第一百八十一章 白玉问心台

Wearing the jade token given by Zhang Ziliang, the light of the Seven-Colored Fallen Immortal Array merely swept past without any sense of threat.

The Office of Administration and the Council Hall were two of the most prominent large buildings in the core area of Ten Thousand Immortals Island.

Following the path, Li Fan quickly arrived at the entrance of the Office of Administration.

A cultivator dressed in a black and yellow Daoist robe stood guard outside. Upon seeing Li Fan approach, he glanced over and politely asked, "Friend, are you here to register for a position in the Strategy Hall?"

Li Fan nodded.

"Very well, follow me."

Following this person, they walked into a small room deep within the Office of Administration.

Only after stepping inside did Li Fan realize that there was another world. The leading cultivator left on his own while Li Fan observed the space alone.

Numerous tall red wooden cabinets were lined up on the ground. There were countless numbers of them; looking at them, one could not see an end to their expanse.

A white-haired old man stood quietly in front of these red wooden cabinets. Li Fan wondered if it was just his imagination, but he felt as though this old man wasn’t standing still. Instead, he seemed to have countless clones busy working around the red wooden cabinets.

Li Fan then looked up and carefully examined the space again.

The surroundings were a white expanse; apart from the red wooden cabinets and the white-haired old man, there was nothing else. It was rather terrifying in its monotony.

"This place seems similar to the Ten Thousand Immortals Mirror—each outpost of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance has this kind of space," Li Fan thought to himself.

However, he did not slack off; he handed over his jade token to the old man.

The old man took the jade token and looked at Li Fan before clearing his throat and speaking slowly, "Although you followed Zhang Ziliang's path, you still need to go through the formalities to officially join the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance."

He pointed towards a blank area in front of him, causing the ground to rise into a square white platform.

Made entirely of white jade, it emitted a lustrous glow.

"This is the Heart-Testing Platform. To prevent Five Elders' spies from infiltrating our ranks, you must pass its test before officially joining."

"Step on it!"

The old man instructed without giving Li Fan any chance to refuse. Li Fan's heart tightened as he prepared himself for any unexpected turn of events and was ready to flee at a moment’s notice.

Standing on the white Heart-Testing Platform, miniature projections of Li Fan appeared around him, along with some basic information about his status in the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance.

"Have you ever joined any other cultivation organizations besides the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance?"

The white-haired old man asked after glancing at Li Fan's information.

"No," Li Fan replied quickly.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened on the jade platform.

The old man nodded and continued, "Do you have any connection with the Five Elders' Council?"

"No."

"Do you harbor any ill intentions towards the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance?"

"No."

"Are there still living relatives of yours?"

"They are mere mortals; I no longer have any attachments."

...

Time passed as they answered each question.

Fortunately, these were basic questions about his stance and did not involve personal privacy such as his cultivation techniques.

Li Fan responded calmly to each query.

"The last question," the old man coughed lightly.

"Why did you join the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance?" Li Fan paused before answering slowly: "Eternal life."

The white-haired old man's eyes flickered slightly.

The Heart-Testing Platform quietly vanished.

"You have successfully passed the Heart-Testing. From today, you are an official member of the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance," the old man clapped his hands and Li Fan’s miniature image appeared before him.

Beside the image were many texts and a video recording of his Heart-Testing process.

Then, one of the red wooden cabinets flew to the old man's side like an illusion, bypassing all other cabinets. One cabinet door opened on its own.

The old man pressed his hands in front of him, compressing the image into a glowing white paper. He gently placed it inside the cabinet.

After closing the cabinet door, it returned to its original position and disappeared from Li Fan's sight.

"You may go now," the old man said to Li Fan before reverting to his previous motionless state.

Li Fan bowed and quietly left.

Exiting this pale space, Li Fan encountered the same leading cultivator at the entrance of the Office of Administration.

He looked at Li Fan and gave him a courteous bow: "Congratulations on officially joining!"

"Oh? How did you know?" Li Fan returned the bow politely.

"Haha, because stepping onto the Heart-Testing Platform means either successfully joining or death; there are no other possibilities. Since you're still alive, the result is self-evident," the leading cultivator replied with a smile.

"Thank you for your teachings. I am Li Fan." Saying this, he handed over a communication spirit token.

"In that case, I am Gao Yuan," Gao Yuan said more politely after receiving the spirit token from Li Fan.

They chatted briefly before Li Fan returned to the Ten Thousand Immortals Mirror.

Upon entering, he received several notifications:

"Welcome, cultivator Li Fan, to officially join the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance."

"Your current position: Array Maintenance Technician of the Congyunhai Area."

"Duties: Assist Zhang Ziliang in repairing the protective array around Congyunhai."

"Annual fixed salary: 1500 contribution points. Additional 200-2000 contribution points based on participation during repairs."

"Minimum duty requirement: Participate in at least three major array repairs every ten years."

"Note: If you fail to meet the minimum duty requirements for the first time, a warning will be issued. If it happens again, your position as an Array Maintenance Technician will be forcibly revoked, and you will not be allowed to rejoin within 100 years."

"Please take your duties seriously."

"You can increase your permissions in the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance by accumulating merits."

"The higher your permission level, the more items and cultivation techniques you can view and exchange."

"Your current permission level: Derivative One."

"Completing merit tasks will earn you merits."

"Merits are divided into six levels from top to bottom: Heaven, Earth, Jia, Yi, Bing, and Ding. Each level is further divided into upper, middle, and lower grades."

...

Apart from these notifications, Li Fan also received several items.

One of them was the black and yellow Daoist robe used throughout the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance. The robe provided basic protective effects, effectively defending against attacks from mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivators.

For Li Fan, this was better than nothing. If the robe wore out, he would need to spend contribution points to purchase a new one in the Ten Thousand Immortals Mirror.

The other item was an identity jade disc.

Unlike simply joining and working for the Ten Thousand Immortals Alliance, without being part of the system, if Li Fan were killed outside, the alliance wouldn't care. However, with this identity jade disc, even if he died unexpectedly, the Fate Hall would be responsible for investigating. Depending on the results, they might decide to take revenge.
